Recovery Coaching
Recovery Coaching Is Aftercare Support
Alcohol & drug addiction Recovery Coaching (RC) is a part of an effective aftercare treatment plan. The RC ensures someone completing a treatment program is still supported while applying the fundamental recovery mechanisms that will be needed to maintain their recovery. The sober companion will further develop the client’s independence and connections to a healthy community.
This mentorship will guide the client through the post-rehab phase and into successful independence. Knowing where you start and where you are wanting to get to is going to be a done through developing a strategic individual treatment program plan.
Recovery Coaching helps the client to bridge the treatment education and therapy, with community resources, and a continuum of care network that will assist in their successful transition. With the support of the RC or an addiction counsellor the client can begin to create their aftercare plan. The prompt implementation of this plan is critical and increases the likelihood of their success in recovery.
After rehab is a critical time for someone entering an independent life of recovery. Therefore, the goal is to build recovery systems and support that will allow the individual to develop their integrity, self-esteem and self-confidence. Having a sober companion will greatly improve the odds of success and the likelihood the individual will live a life free from active addiction.
Major Components of Recovery Coaching
Recovery Programs
The choice of recovery coaching philosophy is a personal one, but the fundamentals remain the same, you must be committed and involved. Whether it is a 12 Step or a scientifically based recovery program, we will ensure that the client understands and is adapting the necessary principles in his or her life. It is paramount, especially in the 12 step based recovery programs, that an individual or client be given clear and accurate information about how these programs work. Often well-meaning people can give poor guidance in their efforts to help. This can often lead the individual becoming confused and frustrated, ultimately hampering their recovery. This is where the Recovery Coach ultimately safeguards the individual from any misguidance.
Relationship Building
Treatment is often a place where an individual will learn about healthy relationship-building strategies, but it usually isn’t until the person is actually on their own that the practice will truly begin. This is precisely where Recovery Coaching will bridge the gap between treatment and everyday life. Supporting the individual in the development of these interpersonal skills is the desired goal.
Employment & Education
Most addiction treatment centres provide a vocational or educational plan as part of their program. However, once the client has left treatment it is entirely up to them to execute this plan. Finding resources and support in the initial first steps can be challenging, and potentially leaving the client feeling overwhelmed, especially in the early stages of recovery. Thus, recovery coaching can be an immediate support to you once you have completed the addiction treatment program.
Recreation & Hobbies
Having a recreational activity is often one of the most overlooked parts of the well balanced lifestyle for the recovering addict. Finding new associations for recreation and pleasure is essential. Whether it be sports, arts, or other active social groups, getting involved in these types of recreational communities dramatically diminishes the likelihood of relapse. We provide Recovery Coaching for exactly these types of situations. Whether you enjoy the gym, hiking, fishing, or any other activities that will add to your recovery path, we can accomodate a sober companion to enjoy such activities with and help build further connection to like minded people.
